Early and Enabling Works


Early works are the construction and service relocation activities that occur prior to the main construction activities. Early works help to reduce interface risk and reduce impacts on traffic and the community. The initial early works activities will include include:

  • preliminary works including acquisition of property, works on impacted community facilities and some works on partially affected properties
  • relocation of public utilities including communications, power, water, gas and sewage services
  • some road widening and intersection upgrades.

Parsons Brinckerhoff appointment — geotechnical investigations

The project has engaged Parsons Brinckerhoff as a provider of geotechnical investigation services. The project is aware that Parsons Brinckerhoff may potentially be part of a bidding consortium for the Operator Franchise portion of the project and accordingly the project has required that the below conditions be complied with to ensure the highest probity standards are adhered to.

  • Parsons Brinckerhoff are required to explain in writing what their internal procedures are to ensure that the information obtained from the engagement for the project team is quarantined and used only for the purpose of that engagement and not for any bid process. This should cover both hard copy and electronic information.
  • At the conclusion of the engagement, Parsons Brinckerhoff is required to provide written confirmation that all information and test data has been handed over to the project team and that no test data has been withheld.
  • Parsons Brinckerhoff staff is not permitted access to secure areas of the Gold Coast Rapid Transit project office.
